You think I wasn't coming back? I'm so sorry! Life has gotten crazy busy with the holidays- speaking of which...I promise to post Thanksgiving picks soon (maybe tonight...) :)

Mommy's Girl... well, sort of...

McCall has become quite the little Mommy's girl and helper. However, I had some breakfast that I left on the table unattended (for just a few seconds) and came back to this....
 "What? This isn't mine?"
My sweet girl snuggling a little before bed one night...

Drake On A Shelf

Have you heard of Elf On A Shelf? If not, this is the product description:

"How does Santa really know if we are being 'naughty or nice?'" The answer came in the form of a small pixie elf. Our mother told us how special this elf was. We learned the elf acted as Santa's eyes and ears, reported our behavior to St. Nick himself, and was our very own friend from the North Pole. Each year the elf returned to perform its assigned task.

To my delight, the elf continued its yearly visits as I married and started a family of my own. The children fell in love with the little red elf that arrived every holiday season to watch and listen. "Fisbee," as he had come to be known, became a treasured member of our family. Two of their favorite memories are racing each other out of bed to see where Fisbee had landed after his long return flight from the North Pole, and telling him their treasured Christmas secrets.
There was only one simple rule, and the kids had no problem sticking to it: They were not allowed to touch Fisbee for fear his Christmas magic might disappear. No one wanted to take a chance that Santa wouldn't get to hear how good they had been!
Fisbee, like all scout elves, was under orders not to speak to the children, but grown-ups have been known to send and receive occasional messages through the elf to Santa. One message I sent to Santa was to request his permission to write our story so others could share in this fun tradition. After hours of persuasive negotiation (with a good word from Fisbee and Mrs. Claus,) Santa granted his blessing to the project. To insure only families who wanted a scout elf received one, he arranged for each elf coming from the North Pole to hibernate in its box until it was adopted by its new human family. Being given a name would cause the elf to receive its Christmas magic.
Unwittingly, the tradition provided an added benefit. It helped the children to better control themselves. All it took was a gentle reminder that "the elf is watching," for errant behavior to be quickly modified.
I never dreamed this simple tradition would lead to so many treasured memories for our entire family. It is my earnest desire that The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition® will bring as much joy to your family as it has to mine.

Got it? OK, so I really want to get this for McCall, but have decided to wait until next year when she is a little older to understand the concept. You may be wondering, "OK, so why are you telling us about Elf On A Shelf?"
Well, while we are considering getting an Elf On A Shelf we already have something else on our shelf. No, he's not an Elf, but he's as cute as an elf.... he's mine and Davy's nephew, Drake. Confused? Let me explain. So, Miss McCall LOVES her cousin Drake and LOOOOOOVES when he comes to visit. So, it has been no surprise that she obsessively likes looking at his picture on our shelf. What I didn't expect was for McCall to "act" like he lives at our house (just because his picture is in our living room). For example, EVERY morning when McCall wakes up I get her from her room (which happens to be located near Drake's picture) and as we pass by she says "hey Drake" and waves.  Also, she HAS to stand on the entertainment center every morning and look at his picture and wave. One night she was even in the living room and randomly yelled "hey." When I asked her who she was talking to she replied "Drake!"  It has become quite funny!

"See Mom, Drake is up here..."

19 Months Old, what?

It happened AGAIN! My sweet baby toddler is another month older. Are the months getting shorter because this seems to keep happening faster and faster?

At 19 Months:
  • Nothing too crazy has changed from last month physically.
  • Holy vocabulary and phrases! McCall seems to add several phrases to her arsenal of vocabulary everyday now.
  • Gets into EVERYTHING!!! For example, someone (my father-in-law says I can't blame McCall) lost my car keys on Monday- and they are STILL missing.....
  • I'm sure more things have changed, but I just can't think of them right now.....

On the way to meet MiMi for lunch on Halloween
 Happy Halloween, MiMi
 Happy 19 Months Old, McCall
 "Cheeeeese"
"OK, Mom, I think you got enough pictures"
"I will not smile for another picture...."
Brushing her teeth.... with two tooth brushes....

We are working on manners at our house (aka eating with your mouth closed)
 My baby is growing up!!!!!
